ICC World Cup

We are Indians, and Cricket is the glue that keeps us together.

I’m not a fan of any sport, not even cricket. Yet, every time the ICC fever hits the nation, I find myself caught up in it. It brings people together. There’s a lot of fun, cheer and FOOD! As my friends bite their nails, chug down glasses of beer, and dive into finger foods with each fallen wicket or extra run, I order up a new dish on the menu purely to indulge myself through the hours. But that’s just me.

Good food makes any game day better. So here’s a list of what to order up, order in, or conjure in the kitchen for the semi-finals and finals of this year’s ICC World Cup.

Sleazy Chili Chicken

Regardless of which sports bar you are at, you will undoubtedly place an order for Chili Gobi or Chili Chicken to go with your drink. Crispy chips with cheese dip and salsa are an absolute treat. Topped Nachos amplify the excitement on game day. If you are making this at home for your loved ones, lay out a layer of nachos, top it with shredded chicken, black beans, cheese, jalapenos and chunky salsa. Burger-Potato Bites

Sounds yum doesn’t it? Place your favorite patty (veg or meat) on a potato fritter and top it with some lettuce, grated carrots or cherry tomato. Squeeze a tiny ounce of ketchup or cheese dip onto it for that extra flavor burst and you are ready to go. Recipe at TasteofHome

Beer-Jalepeno Cheese Balls

Baked Potato Skins

The easiest and most delicious recipe in the world. Bake potatoes in the over at 425 F for 50 minutes. Cut thick potato skins length-wise and store away the pulp. Brush both sides with butter. Sprinkle some salt and pepper for seasoning and broil for two minutes on each side. Serve them hot topped with cheese, jalapeno and salsa. Recipe at Chow

I’m not a meat eater, but I do know that every meat lover has a thing for chicken wings. Whether it is a bucketful of KFC or the sticky delicacies served at Absolute Barbecue. Who am I to judge? You know where you like it and how you like it. Recipe at Food

Raw Papaya Mango Salad

This one has become a personal favorite ever since we found it making appearances on menus around the town. It is so fresh and easy to make, not to mention that it is served in generous amounts at the restaurants. Toss in some thin sliced raw papaya, green mango, peanuts, pomegranate, mint, coriander and ginger. Mix in a salad bowl and serve.
